Torman Maxt giving away full albums for free download

Just a short one this time since I'm currently quite busy with other stuff in real life. The Prog-Rock Band  Torman Maxt has put all of their four studio albums as a free download on their website.

I would describe their stuff as a bit of a style like the songs Saga has released. These guys do also feature christian lyrics in their music which isn't quite often a thing you can find. Anyway, I thought that this is quite a nice thing they've put up so I thought it would fit as a little christmas gift to you guys out there. Have a great christmas time and pick your download right here

The next albums are comin' near and I'd like to present you guys some footage of stuff that is already out there to give you a first glimpse of what's to come.

Let's start with Stratovarius, a great band from Finnland. Also Timo Tolkki, the bandleader and main composer left them some years ago they are still pushing forward with fine melodic power metal. Thir next album "Nemesis" will feature these 11 songs and will be released February 22.

01. Abandon
02. Unbreakable
03. Stand My Ground
04. Halcyon Days
05. Fantasy

07. Castles In The Air
08. Dragons
09. One Must Fall
10. If The Story Is Over
11. Nemesis

The second one on today's row are Paradox, a classic old-school thrash band from germany. They remind me of Xentrix quite a bit and their straight forward songs are fun to listen to. Actually their next longplayer  "Tales Of The Weird" is  set for release on 12-14-2012.
Here are two songs to check out for ya, one of them is a lyric video which is a fine way of listening combined with reading the text while doing so. Anyway don't miss out "Escalation", that one has been posted on soundcloud for your enjoyment.
Finally last in line for today are Helloween, their next album will be called "Straight Out Of Hell" and the tracklist goes as follows:
01. Nabataea 02. World Of War 03. Live Now! 04. Far From The Stars 05. Burning Sun 06. Waiting For The Thunder 07. Hold Me In Your Arms 08. Wanna Be God 09. Straight Out Of Hell 10. Asshole 11. Years 12. Make Fire Catch The Fly 13. Church Breaks Down

7 Seals

It's often nice to have band suggestions from friends or contacts. Those people most likely know what might be of interest for you. It was like this when a friend of mine came around with 7 Seals, a band I'd never heard of before.

And to be honest it turned out to be a blast! The band can be said to be a combination of bands like Rhapsody Of Fire and Blind Guardian, so they do play powerfull riffs mixed with blasting drums and vocal hooklines that will you make remember even a long time after you've heard the songs.

What I like so much about this band is the fact for me that they keep things a bit more straight forward. There are of couse this these church like chorus elements but things never turn out to get on your nerves because you know that the next neckbreaking fast riff is waiting around the next corner. That makes this band a bit more enjoyable if you like it a bit more straight forward.

Here's the song "To forests wild and free" for you to check out:

To forests wild and free

If you want to hear more of the album "Moribund" then visit the media section of the website, it has a fine player with all the songs of the album.

Give the band's website a chance and surf to it here.

Wacken 2012 documentary and all bands from Wacken metal battle online

Meanwhile the german documentary "Heavy Metal trifft Karniggels" has been uploaded to this location. Having taken a look at the stuff it seems to me that the documentary stuff has been left in but the videos from the band performances have been cut out. Guess that's because of legal rights missing to stream this stuff. Anyway, nice they did put this one up at least as (optional HD) flash videos and additionally also as Windows Media Stream in three qualities. If you want to know more about the director Detlev Buck, there is another german sub-website from NDR station describing his life and work quite in detail.

In addition to this they also did set up a subpage with all the performances of the bands that played at the "Wacken metal battle" Contest. So if you saw a band there that you liked a lot or just wanna checkt out some fresh new bands, this is the place for you to go. I counted 17 videos on that page. Great so see they support young bands that much.

If you like to see some interview footage (in german language) there's pretty much online from Wacken 2012. You can see bands like Overkill, Paradise Lost, Hammerfall, In Flames and more talking about their performances right here.

Metal Church to reunite at 70.000 tons of metal festival

The legendary U.S. thrash metal band Metal Church will reunite at two shows of the upcoming 70.000 tons of metal festival (Jan. 28th - Feb. 1th 2013 at Miami, Florida)! This sensation has recently been announced at the official festival website and the announcement can also be found by now at the official site of the band.. The line-up will be: Ronny Munroe on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Jay Reynolds on guitars, Steve Unger on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums.

For one of their two shows on board, they will play their debut album, "Metal Church", in its entirety. The other show will be a "greatest-hits" set. The band will give the fans the opportunity to vote for this greatest-hits setlist. Details on how to vote will be announced soon.

I recall having them first seen on a VHS magazine called "Metal XS Vol. 1". It was a old-school VHS tape that you could buy back in the 90's when youtube and the like weren't around yet. It was besides magazines the only way to stay updated on news of the metal-scene as well as to see interview footage and even moreover to see videoclips the bands produced to promote their albums. There were also TV shows like Headbangers Ball, Hard 'n Heavy but they were shown at silly times you could never watch.

So I saw that interview with the band and the videoclip for "Badlands" which totally rocked. The song is sort of a bit more melodic songs but has a quite raw and powerfull ending plus it has the lyrics refereing to a person in quite a problematic situation which raised my attention. The song got me that much that I watched it again and again and a while afterwards bought the "Hanging in the balance" album for a cheap price, followed up by the "Blessings in disguise" album on which you can find the song "Badlands" as a import CD for a fairly high price. Anyway, both CD's were quite worth the price I paid.

If you want to check them out, do so with the song "Fake Healer" I found on their official myspace page It's from the same album that "Badlands" can be found but has a bit more of the usuallly more rawer side the band mostly sticks to.

Fake Healer

Acrassicauda / Heavy Metal in Baghdad

Wow, sometimes neat surprises are awaiting you when you do give unknown stuff a chance. I did this with the documentation Heavy Metal in Baghdad a while back which was broadcasted from the german TV station 3SAT. Already the intro made me smile and being interested. You can see Eddy Moretti who is putting on his bullet protection while explaining the goal of the mission:"(...) to find out, if the so-far only known active heavy metal band Acrassicauda is still active, because you know - Heavy Metal rules!(...).

That was the point where I knew I was going to watch it 'til the end. First, the title of the feature film "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" made me aware that this could be of particular interest to me and this intro scene got me. Here is a short synopsis taken from the website of the film telling you what this one is all about:

"(...) Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddam’s regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2003-2006, Iraq disintegrated around them while Acrassicauda struggled to stay together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire generation of young Iraqis.(...)"

Having watched the movie I asked myself how it might have turned out the past years for the band, if there's a website around and if there's a chance to hear some more stuff from them. And happily the band can be said to be still alive! They do live in the U.S.A. by now and have recently released their first EP entitled Only the Dead See the End of the War. You can hear the full EP as a free stream on the band's mypspace site.  The EP was produced by Alex Skolnick, I guess a lot of you know him as the guitarist of Testament. If you like it, you can purchase it via itunes or buy it on Amazon.

As for the style of their music I would describe it as a mixture of elements from Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and bands the like combined with a bit more melodic vocals. Additionally they also do use some parts that are sort of progressive like Rage against the machine and other modern bands include them in their sound. In some ways they remind me of the first, self-titled album Random Damage did some years ago. Like it very much, though.

Additionally the band has filmed a video for the song "Gardens of Stone", the song itself has also been set up for free download from the films website. The video is well worth watching so I've included it here, too.

Actually the band seems to be busy with putting together their first full-lenght album. This wikipedia entry has some more information about the actuall situation of the band. Looking more and more around I found also a cool interview with Drummer Marwan Riyadh.

Wild Side Night - legendary Radio Show returns for one night

Does anybody remember the radio show Wild Side on the german radio station Bremen 4? I did listen to this show for numerous of hours. It was the only radio show being around from 1987 – 1997 that talked about Heavy Metal locally at Northern germany as well as about bands in the whole wide world.

They often had exclusive stuff that could be heard weeks before the official release. I recall having heard about Annihilator's new album "Set the world on fire" exclusively at that show, where the host played the title-track of the album. Some time later he had some tracks of the very first album of a band called "Fight". That band was the first project that Rob Halford did play in after he left Judas Priest so I was very pleased that he did play some tracks of the album, which made me buy the "Nailed to the gun" EP as well as the full album "War of Words".

Now the host of the show DJ Frank Hinz will do a one-night club-show that shall bring back some of the memories of the past. It will take place in Bremen at the Club Moments on Friday 26th of October 2012. Please take a look at the shared show invitation at facebook for more info on this. In addition there's also a facebook group up and running that is asking for song suggestions that should be played at this very special event. The club has also a own website and a facebook page if you like to check out the location first.

Some friends of mine here in germany have opened up a band that plays L. A. thrashmetal. Currently the band has the following line-up:

Alex Oberdick - Vocals
Jörg Röttger - Drums
Patrick Feist - Bass
Klaus Kessemeier - Guitars

Anyway, they are still missing out a second guitarist and have begun searching for somebody who's able to play the music properly that can be heard in the demo clip below this article. Additionally that person should be able to add some solo's and should have had already some experience on-stage. If you like to join the band and live in northern germany (eastfrisian region), send them a email at monster-band@gmx.de
You can also view the facebook page of the band and stay in touch with them. As for the first check out the fine demo track and enjoy summer!

The festival season is once more upon us. :-) Also the weather here in germany is a quite mixed thing right now it's time to celebrate the music we all love and adore together with other people while having a little party with it. If you know of more stuff that is up on TV or online please let me know though a comment or email. I'd like to put up as much stuff here as possible.

Vainstream Festival 2012

Some festivals are already over and TV stations have been there to capture some footage of what happened. One of them is iMusic 1 with their show iMusic rocks show. They recently took a look at the Vainstream festival and came back with some interviews and interview stuff (e.g. with Slayer). You can watch it online at their website. It's only 30 minutes long but worth watching it.

Rock Hard Festival 2012

Another TV station here in germany is the WDR. They did visit the Rock Hard festival 2012 here in Germany and will show tonight a cut-together of interview and concert stuff. After that they will also show 2 best of's of the shows from Graveyard and Unisonic. The exact time-table goes as follows:

Sunday to Monday, 15. upon 16. Juli 2012

00.15h Rock Hard Festival 2012
02.15h GRAVEYARD
02.45h UNISONIC

All times are german times. More info on this broadcast (in german) can be found here. In case they should add the stuff afterwards to their archive I'll put the exact links here up,too.

Unisonic

Additionally you can watch stuff from the past 2011 Rock Hard festival and also from the 2010 RH festival stuff is still watchable online.

Update 2012/07/16: Just got the info that Heavy Metal Home TV has also taken some footage at the festival and did upload it to youtube for watching. The video is about half a hour long and features the following bands (each one contributes one full song to the vid):

TURBONEGRO, KVELERTAK, KRISIUN, RAM, DEATHFIST

Wacken Open Air 2012

Will there be a stream this year? I have no concrete info about this yet. At least the german TV station zdf kultur has announced to broadcast a four hour special on 4th August 2012, starting at 20h (german time). Maybe the NDR may do a stream. Their Wacken sub-page is still up and running so chances might be they'll do a stream. Let's keep the fingers crossed.

Update 2012/07/27:
There will be a internet livestream from the Wacken 2012 Festival! The following bands already confirmed that their shows will be shown online: Overkill, Dimmu Borgir, U.D.O. und Hammerfall.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the stream will be online, starting at 18h (german time) and end at 1h in the night. On Sunday their will be a stream up from some shows of the previous days that hasn't been shown in the time before. More details like the full time-table will follow in the next days. I'll update the related post on the frontpage of my blog when new info arrives, so stay tuned for more!

The internetstream can be seen at this site of the german TV station NDR, thanks to them that they will give us the possibility to take part of this great event also in 2012!

Update 2012/08/03:
ZDF kultur will broadcast some of the shows live through their TV station on 4th August 2012. The following bands will be shown at the mentioned german time:

20.00 Uhr, Amon Amarth (LIVE!)

21.25 Uhr, Volbeat

22.50 Uhr, Scorpions (LIVE!)

23.15 Uhr, Machine Head (LIVE!)

Update 2012/08/05: ZDF kultur has put the video for this online, full four hours of live-stuff!!!
But hurry, it's only up for a week.

The highlight shows in the week after the Wacken Open Air will contain the following bands at the mentioned days with german timeframe:

Update 2012/08/07: Seems like every show will be added to the on-demand-archive of the TV station for free watching after the broadcast so I'll add the links here as fast as I can. Just click on the desired show and a new window with the chosen on-demand stream will appear. :-) But hurry, every video is only up for a week. Enjoy!

More info on the timetable regarding the broadcast on german TV station zdf kultur and the highlight shows can be found on this site

The TV NDR station has put up the full Show from Cirle II Cirle for seven days on the Wacken subpage. The band performed Savatage's "The wake of Magellan" album in it's entirely so it's something very special.

Update 2012/08/12: The german Metal Hammer magazine has put together some nice links as a media review shwoing what german magazine's and TV stations did report about the WOA: See the clipping with all the links attached right here.

Update 2012/10/19: Meanwhile the german documentary "Heavy Metal trifft Karniggels" has been uploaded to this location.

AREA 4 festival

There was a stream online and now some of the shows are online. Check my corresponding post for details on where to see the stuff.

Hellfest 2012

(added the link on August 5th 2012).

Omas Teich Festival 2012

Song from the upcoming Testament album now online!

So I guess a lot of you out there will know the legendary thrash veterans from Testament. Thrash at it's best IMHO. The highly anticipated follow up to their 2008 release The Formation of Damnation will be released on July 27, 2012 (Europe) and July 31, 2012 (North America). So a lot of people are surely looking forward to hear something from the new record that features Gene Hoglan for the second time after the 1997's album Demonic on drums.

The bands record company finally has heard the call and uploaded the first track "True american hate" on soundcloud. I love it! It'y typical thrash at it's best with traditional brutal riffing, slightly melodic with a great refrain and a rhythm that let's you bang your head straight forward.

So if you have a facebook account please do me a favour and head over to the promotional site of the album that the record company has set up and give it a like. The more people like it, the more samples of the album will be revealed. So please help making this happen. :-)

Finally take a look at the band's website for all the latest info on the band, especially for toudates that hopefully soon will be confirmed.

Paradise Lost

Sometimes meeting a old friend can bring you back down memory lane. It was like this when I went to a local disco back on Sylvester 2011 to see what's going on there at the first hours of the new year. So there I met a old friend. Several years ago we shared the way from our hometown to school, which is about 25 kilometers one way nearly each day on the bus (and afterwards of couse back again the same way). What we often did was talking about music - we are both into Heavy Metal. One of the bands we both like most is Paradise Lost. So on this evening while we met back again afteral several years without contact we talked about this band, too. He suggested to me the Draconian Times Live Performance the band released some time ago to celebrate the memory of this outstanding recording.

I remembered our talk a little later when I had the possibility to download legally a album for free. My choice fell on the self titled "Paradise Lost" album. It was a long time ago I had last heard a full album from them but instantly the old feelings where back present again and it felt, as if nothing has changed in the time between. They still have this haunting melodies performed through the guitarwork of Gregor Mackintosh combined with hard rhythm and outstanding vocals. Some might say Nick Holmes can't sing but I like the way he brings up the expression of the lyrics and his dedication towards the band. Recently the band has put out a new album called "Tragic Idol" but unless to previous posts I'd like to introduce you first with some older tracks, they show more of the diversity of the sound the band offers towards the audience. So lay back and enjoy. :-) Fo further info on the band give their official home a click please.

By now the new album is getting closer and the band is so kind to give everybody not only a short preview on the album but instead has put the full album online for streaming. So without any further ado here you go with a good time (hopefully):

In addition to this great thing, there's also a video for the title-track up for watching.

Tad Morose

Wow, I wanted to write about this band for a long time and finally it's about to go out and tell the people about this great band from Sweden. I remember been stumbled upon this band through a friend. He purchased a maxi CD from the band. It did feature a track by Tad Morose entitled "Sender of thoughts" as well as "Lost in time" and "Here after". The band was more in a progressive style at the time, mixing melodic keyboards with hard and straight guitar riffing. They also had a very melodic vocalist who left a lot of space for dreaming and haunting interpretation to the listener of the song. I still like these tracks a lot and think that the album "Sender of thoughts" is one of the best one's out there but so underrated and unknown like only few albums I've come across so far.

With the change of the vocalist to a young man called Urban Breed the band also decided to change over to a more powermetal-like style in their sound. The line-up did last several years that saw the band producing 4 albums up to 2003. At some point Urband Breed left the band after the very good album "Modus Vivendi" back in 2003, leaving the band searching for a replacement. I should take quite a while until the found Ronny Hemlin in 2008 who is known from Steel Attack and Kenneth Jonsson in 2012 on guitars. Things began slowly to take shape again and by now the new album is closer than ever, entitled "Revenant". The band recently released a first trailer for the album presenting some fine snippets of four of the songs of the album. Check it out right now!

The band can also been seen at these year's Sworbrother festival here in Germany.
Check out their official website for detailed info and complete discography.

Hear a new track from Linkin Park's upcoming album

Linkin Park like to experiment with new sounds and arrangements to give hard music a new direction. They've put the track of the their first single "Burn it down" online and you can check it out directly here:

Seems like the band more than ever trys to go new ways. Well, I like it although I'm more of the old traditional style in Heavy Metal Music. At least I like that they put in emotions and various structures that break up the old style to give more atmosphere the chance to breathe. Let' see what the album will be all about. The tracklist for "Living Things" is as follows:

1. LOST IN THE ECHO
2. IN MY REMAINS
3. BURN IT DOWN
4. LIES GREED MISERY
5. I'LL BE GONE
6. CASTLE OF GLASS
7. VICTIMIZED
8. ROADS UNTRAVELED
9. SKIN TO BONE
10. UNTIL IT BREAKS
11. TINFOIL
12. POWERLESS

Pegazus

Most people thinking about metal bands from Australia will surely recognize AC/DC or Airbourne when being asked for bands from this country. But there are surely a lot of other bands out there as well. One of them is Pegazus, a band that already been around since the 90's came to my attention with "Wings Of Steel", a track taken from the second CD "Wings of Destiny" that came on a sampler CD of the german Rock Hard magazine back in 1998.

I remember that I liked the song very much for the easy going riff and straight drumming as well as for the high vocals. Sometime later I got the full album and as a little surprise beneath the songs of the album weren't only straight forward songs but also some more complex tunes that needed closer listening to get the full joy of the song. So the band got a place on my "watchlist". I wanted to see how the band would develop further. The next time I should hear new songs from them was a while later when their third CD "Breaking the chains" was available as a bargain. It features a similar structure like the previous album. I would describe them as a straight rocking band with riff-driven songs that have a lot of fine melodies with them as well as great hooklines that one easily can sing-along.

Several more passed that saw the band doing a longer break while they continued their way with some live and best of releases. It shouldn't be 'till 2011 that I got aware of them again through a new videoclip for "Haunting Me" of the actual album "In Metal we trust". I found it while browsing through the Metal Hammer new videoclip section and was surprised that the band was still active yet they had changed thier linup on some positions. Anyway, it's a great song and video but check out for yourselfs:

I hope I'll be able to see them sometime live. They've been added to my "wanting to see them live" list as well. ;-)

For more info on the band check their nicely redesigned website.

Tenacious D

Ok, let's go on with some fun stuff. A film, a band - Tenacious D was born. Maybe you remember the two guys from the film "The pick of destiny" Kyle Gass and Jack Black. The movie told the story of both coming together and finding their very own way of doing music as a combination of accoustic guitars, vocals and a good sense of humor. It featured a lot of big names in the world of Heavy Metal, to name some Ronnie James Dio, Dave Grohl and Meat Loaf. Here's the trailer for that movie in case you still don't know it. I ran across this movie only by chance as a friend of mine did point me to it.

Besides that the band can be spotted in several videoclips of well known bands like Foo Fighters, Dio, Good Charlotte and the Eagles of Death Metal. Currently the band is about to release their next album entitled "Rize of the Fenix". This time the music seems to be more sort of kick ass since it has a lot of powerfull drums in it. But let's risk a ear for yourselfs:

The band also released a video for "To be the best". I can't watch it over here in germany but you might be more lucky so I put it up here as well.

You might want to check out the band's website for more info and tourdates, that have recently been scheduled. Additionally if you live in germany: there's currently a contest running here that gives you the chance to win a concert of the band in your hometown so you can enjoy them along with all of your friends. :-) There's also a chance to win a trip to the sold-out show in Amsterdam.

Liquid Horizon

I remember having run across this band by pure chance - I surfed around on youtube and after I watched a video by Vanden Plas youtube offered me a video by Liquid Horizon and since the starting picture of the video did look fine I gave it a click. Well, I wasn't disappointed with my choice since it got me fastly, it's this part of something beeing so very special and unique in their sound that made me notice down the band's name quickly so I won't get lost in the dust of times.

By now I've checked their site and found out through the media tab on the site that they do follow the modern progressive way of Heavy Metal in the style of Vanden Plas and the like. Anyway, their vocalist Oliver Kilthau and the performance of drummer Chuck West do have found their very own style which gives the band a unique touch which makes it a band to be remembered . So if you like progmetal in the modern style take some minutes and check out the video of "Daily Dose".

You can also follow them on facebook to keep up with all the latest news about the band.

Overkill / Cover CD for german Rock Hard megazine

Here we go with New York's finest thrashers around so far - it's time to wreck everything. ;-) Wow, this band has been around now since the early 80th's and provided their unique heavy and brutal force of thrash to their fans worldwide every since in constant quality but also never forgot to move forward by including modern elements into their sound that are dominated by Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth vocals as well as the bass guitar performance of D.D. Verni. Personally I would also add the guitars of Dave Linsk as another trademark to the sound of the band, also he joined the band shortly before millenium's change in 1999 on the "Necroshine" album. The continuity that the band provides surely has helped the band to build up a stable fan-base that often buy's their albums and shows up when the band's on tour.

By now the band is working on their upcoming record entitled "The Electric Age". It's set up for release on March 27th 2012. The band already released one song of that particular album. To me the song reminds me alot of the old stuff the band did on "Taking Over" bringing in more roughness back to the band's sound but also adding some nice surprises into the song. Let's listen for yourselfs below, hope you'll enjoy.

The band has also put out some nice video stuff showing the making of the album. They are very well worth checking out.

The next issue of german Rock Hard magazine comes with a Overkill cover CD feat. two new songs as well as four Livetracks including rare stuff like ´Death Rider´ and ´The Beast Within´. Release date is 28th of March 2012. Listen to some snippets in the youtube video linked below.

Update 2012-03-24: The band has just released a lyric video for the Song "Wish you were dead". Makes me gettin' even more interested in the upcoming record.

Finally after all do also visit the bands website to find out more about this cool band.

Amaranthe

Nearly every day I'm surfing several websites to keep up to date with the Heavy Metal Universe. To name my three most ones used they're RockHard Magazine as well as the well known Metal Hammer and even more the fine Powermetal webzine. So now you know some of my sources. Which are your's?

One of the topics that the Metal Hammer regulary covers is a compilation of Metal Videos that have been released recently. I mostly do look first at the band name. If I don't know the band I do look further for the starting picture that is shown mostly on youtube videos. One of them made me very interested because it showed the face of a beautifull woman. So I guess every man like's to know what stands behind that picture so I started the video. And it gave me the kick I needed to start to the day to day work. The song "Hunger" totally kicks ass I my eyes since it has a nice combination of heavy riffs and powerfull and hacked rhythm drums that fit very good with the female vocals of Elize. On the contrary the dark voice of Jake E giving it all a nice diverse package that covers different styles as well as it makes the song sounding more brutal overall.

The band from Sweden is yet in it's early days having released the self-titled album last year. Let's have a listening and besided that a look at the action-packed video the band shot for the song "Hunger".

As always do look at their official online presence to find out more about the band.

Anathema

So if you're looking for a bit slower and more sadden styled band in metal then Anathema might be a good choice for you. If've been introduced to them through a cover CD that was released with the german Rock Hard Magazine back in 1998.
The song was called "Fragile Dreams" and it fastly got me by it's catchy refrain and it's powerfull drumming. At this time the sound of the band was ofter compared to Paradise Lost and the similarities to the album "Draconian Times" from Paradise Lost were hard to deny.

A lot of time has passed ever since and the band seems to have changed a lot more to a softer style with progressive and dream-like melodies. Recently I focussed back on the band after years after not having heard anything from the band. It was a new message on the Rock Hard magazine's website  that brought back my attention.Currently the band has released a new album called "Weather systems" and has given out one track of that particular album for free listening and even more for downloading. Just check it out and let's see if you like it.

Heathen

Today is a special day - the 29th of February only comes every four years. To celebrate this special properly I've decided to pick a band that surely deserves much more attention. I'd like to introduce you today to "Heathen", a trash metal band from the beginnings of the 80th's. Looking at their member list it seems that they had a lot of good people in their line-up but they never seem to have recognized besides the Big Four (Metallica,Slayer,Megadeth,Anthrax).

They band did split up back in 1992 but came together in 2001. By now they've released a new album in 2010 called "The evolution of chaos" and it's a superior album. I heard it first yesterday evening and are still doing so while typing this lines. The fascination hopefully can be read in these lines.

The full album "Evolution of chaos" can be heard for free on the bands myspace site.

As a little tip on which song to hear first here's "No stone unturned" which is one of my favorites of the album.

No Stone Unturned

They even have made a video for one of the songs of the album but I can't watch it here in germany. Anyway, here's the video in case you've more luck than me.

2/24/2012

Epica

Epica are a fine orchestral metal band. You may compare them a little bit with bands like Nightwish but Epica are a bit more straight forward in my eyes, they use more harder direct and heavier riffs to bring up the power and energy that the people like so much. Another catcher of the band is the female voice of Simone Simons who brings some sort of frail elements to the sound of Epica while the sound otherwise is more dominated by the pumping rhythm section along with the heavy riffing. A perfect add in my eyes which can express so much different emotions and leave so much room for interpretation. Besides that Simone is quite a good looking woment and a eye-catcher with her long red hair which she likes to bang around with.

Actually the band has a new album coming up with and is giving out every Saturday a little video piece that forms a sort of a puzzle of the new album. But there's also a full track currentyl up for listen. Risk a ear and check it out below.

From the new album "Requiem For The Indifferent" the track "Storm The Sorrow"

You can also download the track legally from the bands label Nuclear Blast right here.

If you like to know how one of the mentioned puzzle pieces looks like here's one of them.

The official site has more info and goodies so go and check it out.

Sacred Steel / Break the ground festival

Hey, some people seems to have a similar opion to me. You can see some new festivals coming up through the last years, a lot of them dedicated to young bands. That's what I like. :-)

One of them is the Break the ground festival I'd like to intoduce you today. It's a small festival located at Ahnsbeck, Germany and is taking place from 6/21/2012.-6/24/2012. Currently the complete line-up lists the following bands:

Antropophagist
Bloodwork
Cripper
Discreation
Hail Of Bullets
Headshot
Milking The Goatmachine
Mob Rules
Nebukadnezar
Out Of Mind
Plenty Of Nails
Rage
Rezet
Sacred Steel
Steelpreacher
The Vision Bleak

For detailed info visit the festival website that is linked below. Tickets are already on sale. It's quite a fair price, the all-in-ticket goes for 29,95 Euro including camping and entrance fee to the festival for all days.

Break the ground Homepage

One of the bands that plays are called Sacred Steel. They do play true metal of the very core sort. That means it goes back to the old standards, putting hard and heavy hitting guitars together with brutal attacking double-bass drums and most of all you can recall the band for the siren-like vocals of Gerrit P. Mutz. His voice reminds me a lot of the traditional bands of the 80's like Omen or Mercyful Fate. That said it means the band will surely split up the fans, some of them loving them for what they do while others surely hate them. Their optical appeareance along with the Manowar-alike texts do put some more very traditional marks on them. Just check out one of their songs with the video here and let me know what you think.

If you want to know more about this band, that is already around for over twenty yeard then jump to the bands official website

Redemption

Sometimes it even helps, if a well known person does a appeareance on a album to put a spotlight on a not so well know band. This happened to me when I first heard about "Redemption". Having surfed around on dreamtheater.net the official site of the big Progmetal Band Dream Theater I spotted a news-headline saying that James LaBrie, the vocalist of the band had taken the time to perform the vocals on some of the tracks on "Snowfall on Judgement day".

That raised my interest that much that I headed over to the Redemption website  and checked out the youtube album trailer that the band had put up on the site. Wow, I remember that it flashed me. Especially the medlody of "Walls" refused to leave my head after quite a while after I had first heart it. What a powerfull but also skilled performance along with vocals that perfectly fitted to transport the feeling of a broken relationship and it's regret about it.

Looking for more information I found out that some big names stand behind this project:

Ray Alder - Vocals
Nicolas van Dyk - Guitars and Keyboards
Bernie Versailles - Guitars
Sean Andrews - Bass
Chris Quirarte - Drums
Greg Hosharian - Keyboards

In the meantime the band has put out a new album called "This mortal coil". You can hear the album trailer here. Well, let's see if it has the same effect on you then it had on me back on that special day.

Beside that a little side-note: the label of Redemption currently offers a label sampler for free download. It features a full track of the new album. Juts go in here and pick it up. A lot of people say it's one of the best labels for progmetal so you might find a little jewel when you're after a bunch of fresh progmetal.

Drone / Metal 4 Splash Festival

Now that the year is moving forward with nearly reaching mid-February by now it's time for a lot of people to think which festival they would like to attend this year. Festivals are often a fine happening with a lot of people coming together from different countries but all for the same reason: they do love to listen to Heavy Metal music.

The bigger festivals named Wacken Open Air, Bang your Head or the With full force are well known but as for Wacken, it's already sold out. Additionally most of them aren't that cheap, too.

So here's a alternative: the Metal 4 Splash Festival, located at Rotenburg/Wümme in northern germany. Here are some details:

Date:19.-21.7.2012

Name and place: Metal4Splash Festival in Rotenburg/Wümme, Germany.

Bands confirmed so far: Sodom, Drone, Mob Rules & Criminal. More bands to be confirmed.

Tickets have gone already on sale and are priced 27,50 Euro including parking, camping, entrance fee for the warm-up show and fee for the festival itself. The first 100 orders come with a free "Old-School”-T-Shirt from the Metal4Splash festival or a CD since it's the fifth anniversary of the festival this year.

As I did before in the past I'm introducing one of the confirmed bands now. This time the pick goes on Drone, a brutal newcomer metal band including most of the modern elements of Bands like Bullet for my Valentine mixed with traditional band sounds from band's like Testament, Mastodon, or Pantera. The songs go straight forward and sound like a perfect fit to make a good show at the Metal 4 Splash Festival. Just check the video below and you'll surely know what I mean.
